The Next Big Thing – Technology Trends & Questions by Hans Mundahl, Hans Mundahl & Associates
Do you ever feel like technology is moving too fast? Are teachers and students really using laptops or tablets in a way that improves learning? Has your school ever adopted a new device only to ask, "What's the next big thing?" This keynote will provide an overview of current trends and themes in educational technology and suggest four questions to ask before launching a new initiative.
The Myopia of "Presentism" by John Gulla, Executive Director, Edward E. Ford Foundation
In his almost four years as Executive Director of the Edward E. Ford Foundation, John Gulla has visited over 250 schools in 39 states as they have sought support from the Foundation for a variety of projects. Through these visits and in analyzing each school’s operations and plans for their futures—strategic and financial, short-term and long-term—certain patterns become clear and John will speak to broad categories of the challenges independent schools will face in the years ahead with a particular emphasis on external forces, internal opportunities, the necessity for greater differentiation of mission and the “fixation” on innovation which is not always all that innovative. He will also give a summary of some of the work being done by the Foundation, some of the themes seen in the grants the Foundation has awarded and some of the hopes for future philanthropy.
