Basic Purpose: The Shady Hill Auxiliary Programs team is seeking dedicated, dynamic and engaging instructors to join our experienced Afterschool team for the 2021-22 school year.  This is a part-time position (total 21 hours per week).

Auxiliary Programs Afterschool Program is available to all Shady Hill families from Beginners (Pre-K) through Grade V, and provides families with much needed after school childcare. Staff members are expected to supervise and engage students both during indoor and outdoor play time, support students with homework, and work with coworkers to develop and implement fun, enriching, developmentally appropriate activities for students.

Your typical Auxiliary work schedule during the school year is as follows:

Monday 1:15-5:45PM

Tuesday 2:45-5:45PM

Wednesday 11:45AM-5:45PM

Thursday 2:45-5:45PM

Friday 1:15-5:45PM

* Afterschool staff are required to stay until the last child leaves 

Occasional attendance for orientation meetings, planning meetings, and special school events is required. 

Essential Responsibilities:

Auxiliary/Afterschool responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Lead a grade level Afterschool group of no more than 12 students:
    • Take daily attendance on attendance software ; 
    • Plan, develop, and implement fun and engaging activities for students in an out-of-school environment.
    • Deliver scheduled activities to the students, including projects, homework (if applicable), and outdoor recess/activities.
    • Plan monthly thematic activities that align with the rest of the Afterschool program.
    • Assist students in having snack and rest time as appropriate;
    • Assist with dismissal of students, including students who are picked up late (past 5PM).
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of each student by creating a safe and engaging classroom/outdoor space.
  • Observes all rules and regulations of Shady Hill School.
  • Assist with Extended Day (Beginners or Kindergarten) on Mondays and Fridays, 1-2:30PM with a team of Auxiliary staff.
  • Assist with BK Afterschool on Wednesdays from 12:25 - 2:30PM (this is what was formerly known as Lunch Bunch).
  • Meet with the Auxiliary team at 11:30AM on Wednesdays for collaborative programmatic meetings.
  • Care for and maintain Afterschool spaces, equipment, supplies and property of the program.
  • Other duties consistent with your position as an Afterschool staff member as assigned, including designing and implementing online programming should social distancing measures be re-introduced. 


  • Experience working with children in a multi-age setting.
  • Experience coaching a sport and/or experience working with children in the following areas- arts and crafts, music, engineering, coding, chess, creative writing, reading, science, math and theate
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty to enhance community.
  • Interest in child development and best practices in education.
  • Commitment to respecting the needs of each child and honoring the pace of childhood.

This offer of employment is contingent upon the School’s learning being on campus for 2021-2022 Academic Year. Afterschool Teachers will not perform duties if instruction occurs off site and online. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the School may need to modify your duties, responsibilities, and/or schedule based on enrollment and business needs. All SHS employees must be vaccinated.
