The Assistant Head of School reports to the Head of School, is a member of the senior administrative team, and is responsible for the day to day management and supervision of school operations and services. Specific duties include:

Students:

*Manage student learning services and support and supervise the consulting psychologist and learning specialists.

*Supervise the school nurse and health and safety programs.

*Be the first point of contact for and primarily manage student behavior.

*Oversee and plan the 6thgrade graduation and the placement of 6thgraders into next level schools.

*Manage the yearly student class placement process.

*Help integrate new students and families into the school.

Faculty support and supervision:

*Share evaluation of the faculty with the Head of School.

*Work with the Head of School and Director of Curriculum Design to oversee curriculum and pedagogy.

*Oversee the orientation and mentoring of new teachers.

*Plan and lead grade level meetings. 

*Visit classrooms on a regular basis.

School operations:

*Oversee the creation and distribution of reports and parent conferences. 

*Oversee the planning and operation of all school assemblies

*Create the school calendar, including pre and post school meetings, and teacher schedules.

*Manage school safety procedures, including arrival/dismissal protocols.

*Occasionally write and speak about the programs and activities of the school.

*Serve as Title IX liaison to Smith College.

Parents:

*Oversee the operations of the PTO and set a yearly agenda of activities.

*Plan and coordinate parents’ night.

*Be the first point of contact for parent concerns and questions.

*Work with the Head of School to plan parent education programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and experience:

Advanced degree required, preferably in education. Significant experience as an elementary school teacher; demonstrated success as a school leader; experience in a lab school desirable.

Skills: Excellent organizational skills; ability to effectively manage school operations; excellent written and oral communication skills; empathetic and sensitive person; highly collaborative yet able to turn ideas into action; creative, disciplined, and thoughtful; strong work ethic; highest professional and personal standards.
