Bay Farm Montessori Academy is seeking a proven strategic and visionary thinker with strong quantitative skills to become an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team as the Chief Financial Officer.  The ideal candidate is willing to play an engaged role in planning for the future of the School by optimizing finances and operations.  The CFO works strategically with the Head and the Board to safeguard the School’s assets, assuring financial sustainability of Bay Farm Montessori Academy for the future.

The CFO is a qualified leader with a desire to work collaboratively with the School’s administrative team in support of a shared Montessori-based vision by providing fiscal management of the School and overseeing administrative aspects of human resources. The CFO provides the Head of School and Board of Trustees with financial reports and projections for establishing long-term plans and policies and making operational decisions. The CFO reports directly to the Head of School and works closely with the Board and the Finance Committee. The CFO manages the day-to-day finances of the School and is committed to the mission of Bay Farm and guided by its principles in all aspects of the work.



  • Manage all aspects of the accounting and finance functions, including cash management, budgeting, forecasting, accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, benefits and management reporting
  • Prepare and monitor the School’s annual operating and capital budgets
  • Provide timely information regarding both budget and cash flow
  • Prepare a bi-weekly operating statement for the Head of School
  • Provide a monthly report of expenditures for the use of each level and department budget within the School
  • On at least a quarterly basis, analyze the budget vs. actual and report variances to the Head of School and Board Treasurer
  • On at least a quarterly basis, revise the cash flow analysis and update the Head of School and Board Treasurer
  • Develop, analyze, evaluate, and present data to assist the Head of School and the Board in achieving the School’s strategic objectives
  • Prepare for and oversee the School’s annual audit and tax requirements
  • Prepare and monitor projected capital campaign cash sources and uses, ensuring availability of cash for planned projects and compliance with donor restrictions
  • Prepare budgets and reports as needed for the Development Director to ensure active donor solicitation and stewardship
  • Oversee collection activities for accounts as required
  • Collect, evaluate and assign vendor contracts, procures services
  • Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations relevant to the School and its operations
  • Implement a prudent insurance program to fully protect the School’s resources and limit risk
  • Work with the Head of School and the School’s attorney on legal matters


  • Work closely with the Head and Treasurer to present financial data to the Finance Committee and the Board of Trustees
  • Oversee the School’s endowment fund management in coordination with the Board’s Investment Policy Management Committee, and make recommendations to the Finance Committee
  • Research and evaluate financing alternatives for capital projects
  • Work in collaboration with the Enrollment Director, Head of School and Finance Committee to create and implement a tuition setting strategy
  • Serve on the Right Fit Tuition Committee to determine Right Fit tuition adjustments for families
  • Manage and monitor all banking and investment relationships


  • Oversee all administrative aspects of human resources, including matters related to salaries, benefits, hiring and dismissal of employees, preservation of personnel files, etc.
  • Supervise and manage Bookkeeper
  • Serve on the Head of School’s Administrative Team
  • Be actively involved the Strategic Planning for the School
  • Participate in community duties such as arrivals and dismissals, various staff committees
  • Lead special projects as identified and assigned by the Head of School
  • Oversee management of facilities


  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA in Business or Accounting or CPA certification preferred
  • Experience in non-profit finance/accounting, preferably at an independent school
  • Proven success in a senior administrative role including working with a Board
  • Strong communication skills, both as a writer and as a presenter
  • Analytical skills and a detail-oriented work style
  • Ability to engage in big-picture strategic thinking and problem solving
  • Expertise in making public presentations in order to demonstrate financial models and reports
  • Experience as a supervisor or organizational leader, including project management, committee membership, and leadership
  • Strong computer skills with an expert-level background in spreadsheets and databases
