Job Description: Part-time Faculty

*Note that we are operating in a hi-flex setting where some of our students are in-person in the classroom and some are remote and participating over zoom. All classrooms are outfitted with the appropriate technology.* 

The Cambridge School of Weston seeks a part-time, experienced Biology teacher in the Science Department. Responsibilities include teaching three required Biology classes. The ideal candidate possesses strong interpersonal skills, values progressive education, builds rapport with students, and has experience in differentiating and working in multiple modalities. The ideal candidate is a gifted educator who values working in a vibrant and art-infused school, as well as understands the value of outreach to the greater Boston community.

 Specific Responsibilities for This Position Include:

  • Teach 3 blocks in the Science Department. Each “block” is a six-week course that meets for 5.5 hours each week in a rotating schedule. The courses are a two-mod class called BioConnections and a one-mod class called BioChemistry, both foundational 9th-grade courses.
  • Plan, develop, and execute lessons that showcase innovation, creativity, and a passion for the art of teaching while also utilizing distinctive instructional approaches that best serve the students’ long term interest.
  • Evaluate student’s ability to meet course standards in scientific knowledge and skills. Document and communicate progress to students, advisors, and guardians regarding academic progress in the course.
  • Participate in weekly departmental meetings prepared to discuss student concerns, teaching pedagogy, and curriculum developments. Assist with departmental representation at school outreach events as needed.
  • Demonstrate a willingness and interest to learn and share new pedagogical techniques and develop specific curricular expertise. Read and stay abreast of current topics in Science education and engage Science teaching faculty in discussions on new perspectives. 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Science field required
  • 3-5 years of experience providing instructions to students preferred
  • A passion and desire to learn more
  • Innovative approaches to delivering biology content
  • Familiarity with project-based learning
  • Strong interest in working with adolescents
  • A desire to innovate within the science curriculum
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with others
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all staff and colleagues
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills for interaction with students, staff, and parents
