Dedham Country Day School seeks a well-qualified Registered Nurse to provide healthcare for approximately 290 students, ages 4-15 years, as well as faculty and staff in accordance with Massachusetts school health regulations and guidelines. We are open to hiring one full-time position with benefits, OR two part-time individuals (over 50% FTE with benefits, and under 50% without benefits). All roles are year-round positions (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM) reporting to the CFO.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer students’ daily prescription medications and over-the-counter medications as needed
  • Communicate student health issues, including medication administration, allergies, asthma, diabetes, and other chronic and acute health conditions which may affect the student’s educational experience
  • Respond to acute illnesses and provide emergency nursing management of various injuries/illnesses
  • Perform nursing assessments, identify abnormal findings, and communicate these findings to parents, making appropriate referrals when indicated
  • Serve as a nurse for DCD Summer Camp and the summer Horizons program, including the oversight of consent forms and required medical records
  • Document student health office visits in the electronic medical record, obtain parent consent forms, and maintain student medical records, including annual physicals, immunizations, medication administration plans, and emergency action plans
  • Develop and implement health education and wellness programs to improve the overall health of the school community
  • Serve as a resource to parents and the school staff for medical and health-related questions and concerns
  • Develop and implement student health plans in collaboration with students and their families
  • Coordinate care for students with medical needs for field trips and other off-campus activities
  • Report communicable illnesses as required by the Massachusetts DPH
  • Work with the school facilities team to maintain a safe campus environment, including the annual evaluation and revision of emergency response plans, according to the recommendations of the local police and fire departments
  • Participate in team meetings, regular faculty/staff meetings, and professional development opportunities
  • Provide lunch duty coverage on a weekly basis
  • Provide staffing from 8:00 - 4:30 pm (part-time positions will divide the weekdays, while full-time will serve Monday-Friday).

Strong candidates will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in nursing with a valid Massachusetts license as a Registered Nurse in good standing
  • Minimum of two full years of employment as a Registered Nurse, with experience in pediatrics preferred
  • Experience using SNAP or other electronic medical record systems
  • Outstanding rapport with children and young adults with a high level of empathy, understanding, humility, and trustworthiness
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of organization
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a respectful attitude toward all members of the school community, with an eagerness to foster an inclusive environment and an awareness of anti-bias practices

Additional requirements:

  • Must be CPR & First Aid certified
  • Must pass Cori and Sori checks and the fingerprinting process
