Moses Brown, Providence, RI
Accredited by NEASC
Moses Brown is a 236-year old co-educational independent day school enrolling 750 students nursery through twelfth grade. A Friends school, MB exists to inspire children to reach their full intellectual and spiritual potential. We engage students in a rich academic curriculum, a broad offering of arts and athletics, and a daily life rooted in the Quaker values of community, equality, and service. We affirm the Quaker belief that there is an inner light in each person that is worthy of dignity and respect. We consider simplicity, integrity, group wisdom, and respect for differences to be paramount in helping students of all faiths and backgrounds discover their identity and mission in the world. In its hiring practices, Moses Brown does not discriminate, and seeks to maximize the diversity of the school, in terms of class, gender, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, abilities/disabilities, and language.
Responsibilities: Moses Brown seeks a full-time math teacher, able to teach high school grades 9-12. The successful applicant will teach 4 sections of math that may range from entry level (Algebra 1) to the Advanced Placement level, through and beyond Multivariable Calculus. The Math department also includes a number of Computer Science classes. The ability to teach a wide range of topics and ages is desirable, but not required; there is some flexibility in course assignments.
Working collaboratively with other members of the math department is important to our school culture. In addition, teachers work closely with students outside of the classroom during office hours and for occasional extra help outside of these times. All full-time teachers also supervise co-curricular activities after school for 2 of the 3 seasons of the academic year. After the first year at Moses Brown, teachers also serve as advisors for 8-11 students.
To note: Currently, Moses Brown School is in person, offering upper school classes in a hybrid, flexible A/B model. Because no one can predict how long we may be teaching in a revised format, experience teaching in a distance learning and/or a hybrid model is helpful, though not necessary.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited institution. Two to five years of teaching experience is preferred, although not a requirement for application. Master’s degree or beyond is desirable. We seek candidates who are passionate about their desire to teach, advise, and learn from high school students, and candidates who are eager to embrace and forward the Quaker mission of the school.
Compensation: Compensation is competitive and based on education and number of years of experience. The school offers a competitive package of benefits to its faculty and staff, including vacation, sick and personal days, health insurance, retirement plan, and substantial tuition remission toward enrollment at MB.
To apply: Please submit a resume, cover letter that serves as a statement of interest, and the names and contact information for 3 references to email@example.com. It is very important that you indicate the job number in the subject line of the email. Once we have read and discussed applications, we will be in touch with select candidates to arrange interviews.
