POSITION SUMMARY: The US science leave replacement teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing the academic program in their classroom; communicating with families about students’ progress; and supporting the mission of the school. This position will begin at the start of the 2019-20 school year and last until December.

The Specialist Teacher will:

  • Support the mission of the school.

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students

  • In collaboration with grade-level colleagues, plan and implement the academic program.

  • In keeping with the Open Circle curriculum, attend to the social and emotional

    development of individual students and the class as a whole.

  • Communicate with homeroom teachers about any student issues or concerns.

  • Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student progress toward learning


  • Differentiate teaching methods, assignments, and/or assessments to meet students’ needs.

  • Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and safety, and order materials to support the classroom environment.

  • Communicate regularly with families concerning student progress and information about academic programming and classroom events.

  • Write narrative progress reports to record and communicate students’ progress.

  • Manage classroom administrative tasks, including taking daily attendance and ordering materials.

  • Perform dismissal, lunch, and recess duties as assigned.

  • Plan field trips and other activities to enrich the educational experience.

  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled.

  • Participate in all-school activities, such as Admissions open houses and the Carnival, that take place outside of regular work hours.

  • Regularly update curriculum materials .

  • Engage in regular professional development opportunities to ensure continual growth and renewal.

  • Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the head of school or academic dean/dean of faculty.


  • Bachelor’s degree in education or field related to discipline

  • Experience working with children

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
