Accredited by NEASC

Waring School, a 6-12 liberal arts high school on the North Shore, seeks a part-time Writing Teacher for the 2019-20 academic year, to begin in late August. The teaching responsibility consists of four class hours total per week, consisting of one section of mixed 9-10th-grade students and one section of mixed 11-12th-grade students. Each section meets twice per week.

The 9-10th-grade class is based on a workshop format. Throughout the year, all students work toward creating a portfolio of revised pieces. At this level, we familiarize the students with various genres - fiction, poetry, personal essay, drama, critical reviews, and descriptive essays.

The 11-12thth-grade writing class is offered on a semester basis (two semesters per year) and students list their preference for the various offerings designed by the faculty. In the past, these offerings have included such topics as Personal Essay, Poetry, PlayWriting, and Journalism

The ideal candidate will have classroom teaching experience at the High School level, ideally classes involving creative writing and critique. A Bachelor’s Degree is required and a Masters degree or above preferred.

Waring School offers a salary commensurate with experience and excellent benefits. As an equal opportunity employer, Waring seeks to increase the diversity of the community and is committed to maintaining an equitable and fulfilling work environment.
