The History Teacher collaborates with colleagues to teach and develop courses in ancient world cultures, modern world cultures, and American history. This position requires the ability to engage students in grades seven through nine and help them to develop an appreciation of historical narrative, an understanding of concepts, and the ability to apply critical thinking skills. This position is full-time with benefits. Campus housing is available.

The History Teacher is an Upper School Advisor to a group of between six and eight students. He or she will coach or lead other afternoon student activities for two terms and will perform duties to support the School’s residential life program.


The ideal candidate will have at least three years of middle school teaching experience. A bachelor’s degree in history or a related social sciences field is required; a master’s degree is strongly preferred. Fay School seeks candidates who will reflect and enhance the racial, cultural, and gender diversity of our school.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and delivering materials and lessons as scheduled
  • Assessing students’ performance by issuing academic grades, effort grades, and comments
  • ncluding academic technology to enhance instruction when appropriate
  • Conducting parent conferences and communicating effectively with parents
  • Attending team and department meetings, and major school events as required
  • As an advisor, being the primary point of contact for parent communications regarding individual student advisees
  • Performing afternoon and residential life duties as assigned
