Pingree School seeks a full-time, humanities-focused English and history teacher beginning in fall 2021. The position will consist of teaching four sections across grade-levels in a combination of courses in both the English and History Departments.  Potential candidates should have a degree in and/or teaching experience with both disciplines, and/or an associated humanities discipline.  An advanced degree is preferred.

We seek applicants who have an interest in and experience with research and teaching in world history and literature, and who have a demonstrated commitment to developing core reading, writing, and critical thinking skills in adolescents. Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to honor all voices in the classroom, employ a diversity of primary sources at the center of their teaching, and offer detailed feedback on the writing and research process. We also seek candidates who are passionate about the subject matter and current with recent scholarship and pedagogy in both history and English education.  Pingree is committed to further developing our anti-racist curriculum and pedagogy, thus a strong candidate is one who has experience with and is interested in advancing this work.

Interested candidates should be committed to working collaboratively in two dynamic and collegial departments alongside accomplished colleagues who are committed to students and reflective and responsive in their teaching. Candidates should be comfortable with new classroom technologies as appropriate, be committed to professional development and sharing best practices, and be able to build a good rapport with students. In addition, we seek candidates who are forward thinking in the evolution of interdisciplinary curriculum development, who are eager to find points of connection across the two departments, and who exhibit an interest in anti-racist curricula as we look to further our institutional focus in these areas.  Nimbleness, flexibility and an interest in teaching across the curriculum and across departments is essential.

The position also includes coaching and/or supervising two seasons of a sport or equivalent co-curricular activity, as well as serving as an advisor in the second year. Consequently, candidates must exhibit a commitment to working with adolescents both inside and outside of the classroom.
