St. Andrew’s School, a 6-PG independent school located in Barrington, RI, is seeking a qualified long term substitute teacher to teach art courses in the Middle and Upper School from February 15, 2021 to April 30, 2021, with the possibility of extension. Classes include Intermediate Drawing, Studio Art Painting, 9th grade Introduction to the Arts, and 8th grade Middle School Arts. Knowledge of drawing and painting, and both physical and virtual studio maintenance is a must. The qualified candidate will be responsible for providing instruction and managing classroom environments. They are also required to perform all of the duties of the teacher. Classes typically run Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Responsibilities for the Substitute Teacher 

  • Implement and teach lesson plans and instructions as directed, or consult with the Head of the Arts Department or the Assistant Director of Academic Programming
  • Continue the teaching and learning process in the event the classes move to a virtual setting
  • Maintain a clean, respectful, and orderly classroom, and follow classroom and school procedures as directed by the school
  • Provide frequent, constructive, objective, and prompt feedback
  • Maintain a physical and virtual studio
  • Collaborate with department members on an interdisciplinary Art project
  • Communicate in a friendly and positive manner towards parents, students, and administrators
  • Keep records on attendance, accidents and incidents
  • Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Ensure the safety of students at all times
  • Maintain all required responsibilities in a virtual classroom environment

Qualifications for Substitute Teacher

  • A Degree in Visual Arts is preferred
  • Ability to collaborate with other professionals
  • Ability to communicate comfortably (written and orally) with students, parents/guardians, administrators, and others
  • Ability to follow and enforce rules, policies, and procedures
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Ability to pass a background check
