Thayer Academy seeks a collaborative and experienced school counselor to serve as our Middle School Health and Wellness Department Chair. As a member of our Middle School administrative team this person will seek to ensure the overall emotional health and well-being of our students. They will further develop and lead our advisory program, organize special programs for students and parents to support their learning about social challenges, academic difficulties, mental illness, family circumstances, etc. They will teach Health/Wellness classes, such as 7th grade Decisions and 5th and 6th grade Health, and create vertical alignment in the health and wellness curriculum in partnership with the science department and US Health and Wellness teachers. Other duties will include serving as an advisor to a small group of students as well as various ancillary duties. Serving as an athletic coach is also welcome.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate possesses a love of the middle school age child, is a team player who can work collaboratively with colleagues, and has at least 1-3 years teaching and counseling in a school or other educational setting. A master’s degree in counseling or other related field is preferred.

In addition, the candidate should be able to demonstrate many of the following:

  • Knowledge of Health and Wellness curriculum
  • Experience with an advisory program
  • Ability to implement restorative justice in a school setting
  • Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community
  • Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices
  • High levels of comfort and experience with technology and audio equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and families
  • Curriculum design and assessment experience

Work Hours: This is a full-time position.
