St. Michael’s Country Day School is an independent day school in Newport, RI serving students in preschool through grade eight. The school seeks a dynamic Middle School Science Teacher with a strong background in life sciences, earth science and STEM education for the 2019-2020 school year. Primary responsibilities include teaching grades 5-7. Additional responsibilities include serving as an advisor and involvement in student life.
The ideal candidate is one who puts an emphasis on project-based learning through a collaborative, inquiry-based approach, where open-ended experimentation and design play a significant role in the science classroom. Content expertise, knowledge in differentiated instruction and assessment, willingness and ability to collaborate and implement innovative pedagogical initiatives, including technology, that focus on a student-first, hands-on, experiential learning is desired. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and management skills are essential to the role, as is a willingness to participate fully in the community beyond the classroom.
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree and three years teaching experience preferred.
