Milton Academy, established in 1798, is an independent coeducational national boarding and day school, serving 1,000 students in grades K-12 on a 125-acre campus eight miles south of Boston.
Milton Academy seeks a qualified kindergarten teacher for a one-year position in our Lower School during the academic year 2019-2020. The teacher, who will serve as a third teacher among 24 children during the first half of the year, will provide sabbatical coverage as a lead teacher during the second half of the year. The kindergarten teacher will be expected to participate in the life of the school outside the classroom, including recess and lunch duties and advising student activities.
Milton’s kindergarten program provides learning opportunities for children that are structured and exploratory, providing a safe environment that allows for experimentation, where children can express knowledge and ideas and take appropriate risks. Our curriculum focuses on the whole child, where a child’s natural curiosity, imagination, and creativity are at the center of learning. Milton’s kindergarten program is a full-day program.
We seek teachers with experience at the lower elementary school levels who believe in progressive, differentiated, and developmentally-aligned models of teaching and learning; understand the importance of cultural competency and instructional technology; bring a close integration of the arts and experiential educational into classroom curricula; and are attuned to the social and emotional growth of students.
A demonstrated ability working in a diverse and inclusive community is essential. Warmth, compassion, cultural competence, flexibility, pragmatism, and accessibility with students, faculty, families, and administrators are essential qualities for this position. Teacher certification is not required.
