Permanent Substitute and Substitute Coordinator

Full time, 10 months/year

Inly School is an independent Toddler–Grade 8 Montessori+ School located in Scituate, MA, 25 miles south of Boston. The School has a student population of approximately 290 students, 60 employees, and serves 20 towns on the South Shore. At Inly, our dynamic Montessori+ practices inspire our inclusive community of learners to explore and shape ourselves and the world with joyful persistence, curiosity, and compassion. 


This position encompasses two related roles within the School. The Inly School Substitute Coordinator will recruit, schedule, direct and oversee all substitute teachers in the School. This will include training substitutes in the culture of Inly, and all of the Health and Safety protocols that we have adopted. The Permanent Substitute will be required to serve as the first in line to provide classroom coverage when the regular teachers are absent.  


  • An undergraduate degree in Education or related subject
  • Proficiency with technology 
  • Excellent organizational skills


  • Oversee all substitute teachers at Inly School
  • Plan and organize substitute arrangements when teachers are out sick, or attending professional development programs
  • Substitute in a variety of classroom spaces


  • Previous elementary school teaching experience
  • Ability to communicate and connect authentically with students
  • Experience and confidence teaching a wide range of developmental age groups from Preschool through Grade 8
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change at short notice
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to teach for day-to-day assignments or longer-term positions, such as maternity leave or long-term illness
  • Ability to collaborate and problem-solve
  • Experience in curriculum and assessment development
  • Strong ability to communicate with parents, understanding that communication approaches may vary with the developmental needs of student
  • Willingness to help supervise extra-curricular activities
