Falmouth Academy is seeking a full-time physics and chemistry teacher for the 2020-2021 school year. Preferred candidates will have an academic background in Physics, as well as a record of demonstrated success working with young people in education or a related field. He or she is an enthusiastic individual who has demonstrated a passion for the process of scientific inquiry and for teaching that builds interest in, enthusiasm for, and mastery of the subject. Outside of the classroom instruction, the teachers will mentor students to carry out an independent research project to present at the school’s Science and Engineering Fair. In addition, the candidate will have the capacity to contribute to the life of the School in co-curricular areas, especially coaching and advising students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach three sections of Physics and one section of Chemistry at an honors level
    • Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, labs, and handouts
    • Prepare weekly labs, including ordering supplies, set up and clean up
    • Maintain student attendance records, grades, progress reports, and other required records
    • Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, lab reports, and science fair papers
    •  Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction
    • Maintain regular office hours in order to advise and assist students
  • Be proficient in experimental design and analysis
  • Assist running the Falmouth Academy Science and Engineering Fair, continuing with Regional, States, and Internationals
  • Make connections in the Woods Hole scientific community for the benefit of students (mentorships and internships)
  • Participate in school evaluation and professional development programs
  • Advise students on academic and other matters in accordance with the School’s mission
  • Coach an athletic team and advise an extracurricular activity as required
  • Participate in some evening or weekend activities, including meetings, professional development, or other school activities
  • Other duties, as assigned
