Mandarin Chinese Teacher (Parental Leave Coverage)

Pingree School, South Hamilton, MA

Accredited by NEASC

The Pingree community is dedicated to academic excellence and the development of high personal standards. Pingree believes that a love of learning flourishes best in a diverse community that respects truth, curiosity, creativity, humor, and independent and imaginative thinking. Committed to developing global citizens, Pingree actively seeks faculty, staff, and students of character and intelligence from diverse social, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Pingree School seeks an accomplished and enthusiastic world language instructor to teach five sections of Mandarin Chinese, in an in-person hybrid model, to begin at the start of the school year in September 2020 and to end when we leave for winter break in December. (The period between Thanksgiving break and through winter break will be remote.) In the hybrid model, the teacher will be in-person four days per week, and will be teaching remotely on Wednesdays. In addition to teaching the five sections, responsibilities include submitting student grades and comments at the midpoint and end of the term and contributing to student review meetings.

Language instruction at Pingree has as its underlying essence the belief that our curriculum should be equally focused on the development of proficiency and confidence in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in the target language. The successful candidate will be fluent in Mandarin and will have experience with and a passion for teaching in the target language at multiple levels in a secondary school. Experience or ability to teach advanced levels, such as Honors Chinese 5, would be an added strength. Pingree seeks candidates who value creativity, innovation, and the use of technology in the classroom. Additionally, interested candidates should be committed to working collaboratively in a dynamic and collegial department. Finally, we seek candidates who believe in integrating cultural learning along with language learning.
