St. Andrew’s School (RI) seeks a full-time Spanish teacher for the 2020-2021 school year. Reporting to the Director of the Upper School, this person will be a member of the World Languages department. A description of the position and subsequent duties is listed below:

Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching:
  • Teach five sections of Spanish, possibly across the 6-12 continuum
  • Develop and coordinate quality lessons for courses assigned
  • Review and revise IB unit planners and/or course outlines
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other dept members
  • Encourage students to explore the high and low cultures of the people who speak the target language
  • Experience in curriculum design and implementation
  • Teaching experience in the Middle Years Programme or Diploma Programme within the International Baccalaureate framework is an important consideration for this position.

   II.     Advising:

  • Advise and establish positive relationships with assigned students
  • Correspond regularly with advisee parents in regards to student progress
  • Encourage personal responsibility and personal best in advisees
  •  Keep current with advisees’ grades, service requirements, and overall well being

III.      Extracurricular:

  • Coach and/or oversee one to two activities per year and/or run a club coordinated with the Athletic Director, Director of Student Life, or Director of Residential Life
  • Complete residential duties throughout the school year, which includes some weekends and evenings

IV.          Other professional duties:

  •  Attend all World Language Department, general Faculty, and assigned committee meetings 
  • Prepare for and attend the IEP meetings of your advisees and students
  • Update Department Head on a regular basis concerning the status of classes
  • Communicate with teachers and administration as needed to advocate for advisees and students
  • Communicate with advisees’ parents or guardians as required or more frequently if needed
  • Actively promote World Language study throughout the St. Andrew’s community
  • Actively participate in activities and events of the St. Andrew’s community
  • Communicate with the Department Head regarding budgetary needs as early as possible
  • Complete and submit annual self-evaluation, goal setting, and peer observation reports
  • Attend as many school-related events as possible and assist as needed
