Located in Waltham, Lincoln, and Wayland, Massachusetts, Carroll School is an independent day school that serves a total of 440 students from grades 1-9, who have language-based learning differences, such as dyslexia. This position is located on our Lower School Waltham Campus which serves grades 1 - 5 (approximately 160 students).

Position Summary: This position works cooperatively with staff, parents, and students to ensure that student medical needs are met on an acute and ongoing basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Assessment, triage, and treatment of acute illness, injury, and emergencies involving students while adhering to the Nurse Practice Act and the guidelines of care established by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
  • Management and administration of medications as directed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations.
  • Communication with parents/guardians, faculty/staff, and healthcare providers as needed to ensure the health and safety of Carroll students.
  • Serve as an intermediary between the school, home, private physician, and health and social agencies regarding the health status of students and their needs.
  • Interpret medical evaluations to students, parents, and school personnel and provide an understanding of implications for the educational performance of students.
  • Plan and provide in-service education for school personnel regarding health observations, referral systems, assisting students with medication, bloodborne pathogens, playground safety, first aid and emergency care procedures, and other appropriate health issues.
  • Assist with the implementation of school policies to comply with established health regulations
  • In the event that it is needed, work with heads of divisions, teachers and other support staff in providing appropriate physical classroom accommodations for students,

other appropriate health issues.

Qualifications:

  • Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts, current CPR and AED certification.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts in a child health, community health or other relevant clinical nursing setting.
  • Prior school nurse experience strongly preferred.
  • Fluent and/or comfortable working with an electronic database system.
  • Flexibility of schedule; opportunities will be available to add compensated substitute health office coverage
  •  If interested, may work as School Nurse in the Summer@Carroll program, which is both an academic and camp program
