Full-time Spanish Teacher

Saint John’s is a private, Catholic high school of approximately 1,000 boys and offers an excellent teaching environment with competitive salary/benefits. Sponsored by the Xaverian Brothers, the School has a strong and storied history since its establishment in 1898. Its mission is to educate the whole man, dedicated to the spiritual, intellectual, creative, social, aesthetic, and physical development of its students.  

Saint John’s High School seeks an enthusiastic and creative full-time Spanish teacher. Candidates should have a strong background in education, a commitment to and understanding of adolescent boys in the classroom, the ability to utilize technology to enhance student learning, and the drive to engage in ongoing professional development.

The ideal candidate is committed to guiding our students as they construct their understanding of Spanish. This educator is a collaborator with an appreciation for the teachable moment in their discipline and beyond it, when moral and ethical questions arise in and out of the classroom. The selected candidate has a real desire to contribute to the school community by sharing their passions and through additional efforts, such as coaching teams, directing clubs, or supervising activities.

Required qualifications include: an undergraduate degree in Spanish or a related discipline (a Master’s or Ph.D. would be highly valued), at least three years of high school teaching experience, native or near-native proficiency in spoken and written Spanish, strong background in Spanish cultures and literatures, fluency with Spanish language pedagogy, capacity and commitment to teach beginning Spanish through post-Advanced Placement, proficiency with technology, dedication to working cooperatively with world language teachers to maintain a strong language program, and robust interpersonal skills. In addition to honor and character, and commitment to intellectual engagement, especially important is the candidate’s ease with diverse constituencies and demonstrated commitment to an inclusive school community.
