The Pike School community represents culturally and socio-economically diverse families from 38 communities. Pike is seeking a part-time, experienced Learning Specialist who will provide on campus individualized and small group academic support to a diverse student body of middle school aged students (grades 6 - 9) in an independent school setting. The ideal candidate will communicate effectively with students, parents, and faculty. In addition, we are hoping to find a candidate who is comfortable supporting our older students in math, writing and organization/study skills. In this every changing academic climate, the candidate should be comfortable with Google Classroom and Zoom.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide strategy based content support to learning services students during school hours and outside of school hours when necessary
  • Provide individualized writing and math support to Pike students in grades 6 - 9
  • Attend learning services department meetings
  • Write reports for individual learning services students twice during the year
  • Interpret test results, with support, to review with students, teachers and parents
  • Assist teachers in providing academic accommodations and test modifications
  • Ability to work with students remotely if/when needed
  • Regular email communication with students' assigned advisor and teachers as needed

Preferred qualifications:

  • Licensure in special education and Master’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years experience preferred providing 1-1 or small group academic intervention
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with adults and students
  • Experience with students grades 6-9
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Math in Focus curriculum, algebra I and geometry preferred
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing testing recommendations
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
