The Rivers School—a 6-12 coed independent day school in Weston, MA, just outside Boston—is seeking a part-time upper school history teacher for a parental leave position for January through June 2021.  The position will start with time for transition in early to mid-December. The candidate will teach three sections of 9th grade world history.  Depending on experience, the candidate could possibly teach an additional section of AP U.S. History.

Candidates must have experience teaching world history; in-depth knowledge of 19th and 20th century world history preferred.  The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience teaching both world and American history, preferably at the high school level.  Candidates must possess a commitment to professional development and personal growth as a teacher of history, research, and writing, as well as the ability and desire to collaborate with colleagues in the department. A bachelor’s degree in History or a related subject is required; a master’s degree in History or education is preferred.

Rivers intends to return to on-campus learning in the fall, but the school is also planning for other contingencies. The ideal candidate will have hybrid and/or remote teaching experience or must commit to developing these skill areas this fall.  Rivers is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, experience, and perspectives among our faculty body and school community.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter, resume, and list of references to Andrea Diaz, History Department Chair, at a.diaz@rivers.org.
