We seek a dynamic and flexible individual who loves teaching and understands how to engage elementary school children in the acquisition of a world language. Building on Fay’s existing world languages program, this teacher will collaborate with colleagues and teach French courses in grades three through six. The School’s world language programs are culture-based and emphasize language, both spoken and written. This position is full time with benefits. The ideal candidate will want to live on campus.
As an independent day and boarding school, we expect teachers to become involved in the life of the school. Beyond classroom work, teachers serve as advisors to groups of fifth and sixth grade students and coach or assist in our after-school athletic program.
The position requires the ability to teach French and, ideally, Spanish (or the willingness to take intensive Spanish courses with school support.) Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in French or a related field and near-native fluency in French. A master’s degree is strongly preferred either in French or in education. Three-five years teaching experience is preferred with experience at the elementary/middle level. - Preparing and delivering appropriate materials, lessons, and regular assessments to students in grades 3-6using a variety of teaching strategies
- Effectively using technology to enhance instruction
- Assessing students’ performance by issuing grades and writing comments
- Conducting parent conferences and communicating effectively with parents
- Attending team and department meetings, and major school events as required
- Performing two trimesters of afternoon duties as assigned
Candidates who live in campus housing will performing residential life duties as scheduled.
