About This Workshop
A Two-Day Program
Systemic equity is a combination of elements intentionally designed to create, support, and sustain social justice. It is a complex process that offers space for conditions, equitable ideas, habits, outcomes, power, resources and strategies.
During our time together, you will engage with the concept of systems thinking. Systems thinking means looking for the often hidden structures that shape biases and create disparate outcomes. It involves:
- Understanding the power of structures that are in place in our schools
- Looking for habitual patterns within our personnel and procedures
- Reflecting on the larger systems affecting the behavior of individuals or groups
This opportunity will introduce you to a framework for systemic equity. In order to move the equity work out of the "team" setting, where only a few members are holding the work, shifts need to be made in multiple spaces and systems. This shift will ensure that equity becomes the very fabric of the classroom or school space. You will work within the frameworks to identify opportunity areas where you can make your school spaces more equity- centered.
This workshop is relevant for all members of the school community. We encourage you to register a group to collaborate and examine systemic equity structures at your school.
